Throughout my life I have been influenced by several people in both positive and negative ways. Many of these people influenced me when I was young and malleable, and this greatly influenced my behavior, mindset, and opinion on things as I grew up. Some of these people include my father, who influenced my idea of gender, my mother who influenced me religiously, both of my parents who influenced me politically, Lady Gaga who is part of the media who influenced me, and the my dog Furgy who influenced me. personally. Ever since I was a child, my father had rigid ideas about what a man and a woman should be. It made me believe that a man and a woman should behave, dress and act a certain way. He told me that a man should be strong, emotionally hardened and should not do feminine things. His ideas about what a man was made him impose certain rules and restrictions on me. Sometimes she wouldn't let me wear chapstick if it was red or cherry flavored because she thought it would look like I was wearing or putting on lipstick and it was "too feminine." I also wasn't allowed to wear flip-flop sandals because those were "for girls" too. His strict rules meant I could only wear closed shoes or sandals and I had to put up with severely chapped lips because I licked myself so often. Not that I'm older, all his strict rules remind me not to act like that with my kids. I try to always be open minded with everything and if something makes my son happy and doesn't harm anyone then I would allow him to do it. In a more positive way, my father taught me to be respectful towards women and to be a gentleman. He would have taught me to open and hold the door for people, to put my hand between the elevator......the center of the card......for your family, because I will never get back yesterday or this moment, and we never know when it might be time to leave this Earth. Tomorrow is never promised, so I need to make the most of today and do everything I can to create joyful memories with my family. I saw how important the simple things are and learned to appreciate the simple moments in life. Up to this point in my life, I have been influenced by my father regarding gender, my mother for religion, my parents for politics, Lady Gaga the media, and our dog Furgy personally. From this moment on until I die, I will be influenced by many people and entities in many different ways. When I was young and easily influenced, the people around me created and set the mold for the person I am and will be today and tomorrow, and I will forever be touched in some way by their presence in my life.
