Consumers are at the top of the food chain. Technological progress has changed the way we live and eat nutritious food without bioengineered genes or GMOs (genetically modified organisms). GMOs are artificial organisms created from combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes used to increase animal nutrition and industrial growth around the world. Organic food is beneficial for the well-being of the human body and its health. Americans have consumed GMOs for many years whether they knew they were eating them or were against their consumption. Genetically modified foods were first approved for human consumption in the United States two decades ago, and the quantity of these foods worldwide is increasing every year. For example, these important genetically modified food crops are not comparable to the healthiest foods available because they contain foreign genes, viral vectors, and antibiotic markers that are new to the human diet. Every day we eat GMOs, we discuss research and argue whether there is sufficient scientific evidence that proves food allergies, chronic toxic effects, bacterial infections, the body's resistance to antibiotics, and incurable infections are conditions that affect the health of humans. However, there are organizations that believe that genetically modified food has unproven results, even though there is much evidence to suggest that it is unsafe (Paarlberg 226). Furthermore, data presented in 2012 concluded that plant nucleic acids, when ingested by humans, could regulate human genes, and following digestion in the gut, consumers are at risk of developing enzymes and hormones related to brain cancer. colon, breast and prostate; and these hidden risks prevent the presence of pathogenic bacteria resistant to current antibiotics in the body, which leads to an increase in the spread of disease in the population (Chrispeels 5). Many anti-GMO organizations and advocates provide campaigns and educational resources so that people are aware of what GMOs are, their impact on the human body, and the rights they have to refuse the use of GMOs
