Cyberbullying is the use of technology used to target or harass another person. Cyberbullying is a growing problem in the United States. For this reason, more teen suicides may be directly linked to this problem. There are effective ways to combat this problem. Due to technology, the increase in the use of computers and the increase in sharing of personal information online have increased the problem of cyberbullying (“Cyberbullying”). If the situation is managed, the victims' experience has left scars and terrible memories. Unfortunately, cyberbullying is commonly meaner in girls. According to “Preventing Bullying,” more and more parents are starting to step up and do something. Victims are also starting to stop using computers as often. Clearly something needs to be done about this global problem. The problem of cyberbullying has spread to the United States for multiple reasons. First, the technology has improved and become more popular. This gives bullies the opportunity to send harsh messages to victims or post rumors online (“Youth Suicide”). Improved technology allows bullies to say anything they would be too scared to say to a person's face. Secondly, one third of teenagers who own a computer and use it for more than two hours a day commit suicide if they are victims of cyberbullying (“Cyberbullying”). Most teens who own cell phones are connected to the Internet 24/7. Teens are always connected to apps like Facebook and Twitter and use them constantly every day (“KidsHealth”). So, bullies always have a way to contact and harass victims whether on the computer or on the phone. Third, according to "Social Networking", posting personal information online has... middle of paper... ways in which that information can be made public. Third, there are ways to prevent cyberbullying from affecting a victim. Setting your privacy settings and thinking before you post are a couple of ways to prevent cyberbullying (“Eliminate Cyberbullying”). A person can also confront a cyberbully and defend themselves or a friend. Therefore, there are many ways in which you can prevent cyberbullying from occurring. Unfortunately, cyberbullying has become very popular among teenagers in recent years. Teens need to be informed about the many dangers and consequences that can arise from cyberbullying. There are many programs in schools to help better understand the severity of cyberbullying and hopefully prevent further suicides (“Eliminate Cyberbullying”). Therefore, cyberbullying is a big problem in the United States, but it can be stopped or prevented very easily.
