The first day was August and I didn't know what to expect whether it was socially or academically. So my first task was the summer reading I had planned. Reading The Princess Bride was one of the longest efforts for me. I found absolutely no interest or importance in the story behind it. To be honest about how much I hated reading, I used SparkNotes for about 60% of the book with the snippets I would read. That's when I realized that high school was going to be a long road if I didn't learn to read properly. I took a public speaking class the following semester. Even though it didn't have much to do with reading, I feel like my reading skills have improved. We should read documents that tell us about some techniques that great public speakers would do. This was something I was finally interested in. Being a good public speaker is something everyone wishes they could do. So I just worked through it and read all the necessary steps. When it came time for our first public speaking assignment, I was calm and executed the paper flawlessly. This is because I read the homework sheets and tried to fully understand what the task was. Throughout the rest of high school, my reading interests didn't improve much and I didn't really feel like I would be 100% ready for college.
