Work RedesignImagine you are a receptionist, answering phone calls and filing every day. Imagine working and doing the same tasks every day. Employees will eventually become bored and unmotivated in their work because they were not learning and doing the same task every day. Job redesign is where jobs can be reshaped to make them more motivating. It is among the most popular in some companies. Generally, job redesign consists of six components. These are job rotation, job enlargement, job enrichment, flexible hours, job sharing and telecommuting. Job redesign, which affects companies and workers more positively than negatively, consists of job rotation, job broadening, job enrichment, flextime, job sharing, and telecommuting. By organizing these components well, companies can obtain multiple benefits, such as increasing employee motivation and satisfaction, reducing absenteeism and turnover costs and expanding productivity. The textbook Organizational Behavior states that job rotation is “the periodic movement of an employee from one task to another” (215). As a result, employees can escape boredom and motivation also increases. Job Enlargement defines that “increasing the number and variety of tasks performed by an individual results in jobs with greater diversity” (217). For example, housekeepers in some small hotels handle various tasks, such as cleaning the bathroom, making beds, and preparing meals. These jobs help increase their responsibilities and duties. Job Enrichment is “…increasing the degree to which the worker controls the planning, execution, and evaluation of his or her work” (217). Flextime is flexible working hours. Employees can plan their working hours, when they are most productive. Furthermore, they have a certain degree of freedom where they can freely go to work and leave. Job sharing is “an arrangement that allows two or more individuals to divide [their working hours]” (219). It allows workers to have a good balance between work and family responsibilities. As a result, employees can satisfy their work and life. Furthermore, their satisfaction increases the productivity of companies. Telecommuting allows employees to work at home at least two days a week via a computer (219). It offers flexibility to employees and also has a positive effect on companies, for example by reducing the costs of office space. If companies tactfully organize these components, companies and employees can gain mutual benefits. Call types are often divided into incoming and outgoing. Incoming calls are calls made by the consumer to obtain information, report a malfunction or ask for help.
