Topic > Cadbury Corporate Social Responsibility in India

Cadburys is a British confectionery company famous worldwide for selling a wide variety of sweets, from chocolate to drinks to chewing gum in the United States. Cadburys is especially popular in places like the UK, Canada, Australia and India. Cadburys began in 1824 when John Cadbury opened his first shop in Birmingham, England, selling tea and drinking chocolate that he brewed and prepared in his shop. In 1831 he purchased a warehouse not far from the shop and began producing his products on a commercial scale and by 1842 he was selling 16 varieties of drinking chocolate and 11 different types of cocoa. John Cadbury's health began to fail and he retired in 1861 leaving the company to his sons, Richard and George, who in 1896 launched 'Cadbury's Cocoa Essence' which revolutionized the confectionery industry. The business was growing rapidly and the factory their father had purchased became too small and the brothers came up with the idea of a 'Factory in a Garden' and Bourneville was born. Bournville, was a beautiful area of the English countryside that had a new factory and several houses, playgrounds, swimming pools and large gardens all for the employees. Once news of Bourneville spread, everyone wanted to work for Cadbury, so in 1893 another 120 acres were added to Bournville and 143 new cottages. Business was thriving and many cocoa products were produced and occasionally there was a lot of cocoa butter left over from cocoa essence and in 1897 the first chocolate bars were produced. In the 1990s Cadbury was known for the magnificent advertisements created by commissionaire Cecil Aldin. With increasing competition from external markets in Europe, Cadburys is adding more milk to its recipe and in... middle of paper... changes with an active network of over 300 environmental advocates. Cadburys firmly believes in changing the world for the better and strongly believes that this will happen.
