More specifically, this essay will focus on Sydney, Australia. He will discuss the push and pull factors of Australia and the Australian community today. Australia is a unique country. It is one of the few countries where its founders were Jews. Furthermore, it is the country with the largest number of Holocaust survivors in the world. The history of Jews in Australia initially begins in the 18th century, when people were deported as convicts from the United Kingdom. About 8-14 of them were Jews. This attracted more Jews from around the world to immigrate to Australia. In the 1850s, the gold rush attracted European migrants who caused a demographic shift.
