Leadership and Organizational ChangeManagement and leadership are seen as two different perspectives in the business environment. As described by Dr. Warren Bennis "Managers are people who do things well, while leaders are people who do the right thing", this means that managers do things according to established rules and follow company policy, while managers leaders follow their intuition, which could in turn be of greater benefit to the company. Looking at this chapter as a whole, I noticed that there is no mention of a fixed approach towards one leadership style, rather it suggests that a range of different leadership styles need to be adapted based on the situation. Furthermore, I found that this chapter lacked some useful information that should have been discussed, for example it did not place much emphasis on leadership styles and strategies in the service industry. However, some distinctive traits that a successful leader must have have been highlighted, such as good interpersonal skills, sociability and dominance. Some philosophers believe that leaders are born as leaders, which perhaps I don't entirely agree with, not all successful leaders are born as leaders. However, the leadership style can be adapted in response to the situation and needs of the business environment. In addition to reading chapter 6, I did some research on other resources to learn more about change management. Change is constant in today's business world, as Charles Darwin quotes, “It is not the strongest species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but rather the one most responsive to change.” Changes are often made by top management (i.e. leaders, managers, shareholders). Managing change or dealing with a change situation is often a very difficult phase for most people...... middle of paper ......and it is usually planned that comes from market change (i.e. products , customer needs, competitor actions). The process of soft system methodology usually requires a lot of patience as there are several steps that managers need to go through to achieve the best results. Therefore, the results cannot be expected to come at the initial stage and therefore the scope of the investigation cannot be narrowed because the results would not be appropriate. Furthermore, it is difficult to assemble the most complete picture, without imposing the particular structure and solution on the problem situation.
