The Diary of Anne Frank begins in the warehouse annex in Amsterdam, Holland, where Anne Frank and seven other people hid during World War II. It opens with Otto Frank and Miep Gies alone in the annexe in 1945. Mr. Frank had just returned home from the concentration camps, being the only survivor of the annexe. After conversing for a while, Miep gives Mr. Frank Anne the diary of the days when she lived in the annex. He begins reading the book, which slowly returns to 1942, when it all began... Early one morning in July 1942, the Van Daans and the Franks meet for the first time in the annex. Everyone is covered in layers of clothing to bring as much as possible into their new home. They all get introduced to each other. Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, Mr. and Mrs. Frank, Margot and Anne Frank live in the secret annex. Mr. Van Daan is a selfish and greedy man. Mrs. Van Daan loves beautiful things, has a high self-esteem and adores her husband. Peter is shy, quiet and really doesn't say much. Mr. Frank is a kind, thoughtful man and leader. Mrs. Frank is maternal, caring and sweet. Margo does as the others say and tries to keep a discreet profile. Anne is wild and unique. He doesn't let others make fun of him and is very independent. Everyone in the annexe is very different. Miep and Mr. Kraler are the responsible people who helped them hide. They bring them the things they need and make sure to keep their living arrangements a secret. Both show great kindness. The Van Daans and the Franks are told to be quiet from eight to six, they must be absolutely quiet because the annex is above the warehouse, and at that point the workers will enter. They can remain... middle of paper ...... the world even if they find themselves in this situation. He believes that the world is in a phase. She is pure of heart. Suddenly the worst happened. The green police came to get them. They give them five minutes to get their things. Anne writes one final diary entry. Once again, it is November 1945. It is the same setting as the beginning of the play. Miep and Mr. Frank exchange information. Miep and Mr. Kraler say they were in the countryside when they were taken in search of food. Mr. Frank tells how they were all separated into different camps. Everyone except Mr. Frank had died in one of the camps. Mr. Frank reads a line from the diary. Anne wrote that despite everything, she still believes that people have good hearts. Mr. Frank says she makes him ashamed and the curtain falls. Works Cited The Play of the Diary of Anne Frank
