As war rages, there is a special breed of men who put everything on the line for the safety and preservation of their country. These men operate behind the scenes with no conventional help at their disposal and no need for meritorious recognition. These men are the most elite branch of the United States military: the Navy SEALs. As mentioned in their ethos, they are ready to exploit the full spectrum of combat power to achieve their missions and the objectives set by their country. They are trained not to fail; this legacy has been fulfilled since their creation during the Vietnam War. This conflict tested both their strength and their values, as modern conflicts do today. The U.S. Navy SEALs parlayed their credibility during the Vietnam War into the elite warriors they are now on the modern battlefield. During the 1970s, tensions increased between the country of South Vietnam and the Viet Cong rebels and eventually erupted into what is commonly referred to as the Vietnam War. The US government decided to help South Vietnam against the tunnel guerrillas. This agreement led to an influx of money given to the South Vietnamese army and also to the movement of US advisors into the field. Early in the conflict, the Viet Cong used a series of subjugation and guerrilla tactics that were confusing and abnormal for both the conventional Vietnamese Army and the United States Army. The United States had a military unit that specialized in this style of warfare known as the Green Berets. However, the Vietnam War was fought in both jungle terrain and delta/swamp environments. This water element was a problem; thus, President Kenn... center of the card... dangerous, elite warriors in a respected and highly decorated military unit. The SEALs' involvement in the Vietnam War was largely based on clandestine and unconventional style missions which allowed them to be used for a variety of tactical and strategic uses. As time has passed, US Navy SEALs have played a role in a number of conflicts around the world. Current conflicts in the Middle East are using SEALs more than they have ever been used. This is especially true in the regions of Iraq and Afghanistan where the war on terrorism is still being fought today. Since their creation and evolution during the Vietnam War, the SEALs have essentially completed missions and operated in the same style of warfare. The SEALs currently carry on the legacy that their brothers during the Vietnam War forged for them with blood, sweat and raw firepower..
