Imagine you are driving to your friend's house after curfew time and suddenly you are stopped by the police. The police officer gives you a ticket. Then you think to yourself that I wasn't doing anything wrong. The police tell you to go home and never do it again. You wonder why. In the late 1800s, William the Conqueror introduced curfew laws. He wanted curfews to be a normal part of social life in England. The purpose of curfew laws was to maintain peace and prevent fires that could ruin citizens (Daytime Curfew). The first youth curfew was adopted in Omaha, Nebraska in 1880 (Favro). Most states have curfew laws. Youth curfew laws are local rules that prohibit people of a certain age from being in public at certain times (Reuters). Punishments for juvenile curfew laws are fines, community service, restriction of driver's license privileges, and possible imprisonment in jail or juvenile detention (Reuters). Some people disagree about curfew laws. Curfew laws are not fair. Parents don't like curfew laws because parents worry about their teenagers. They also don't want anything to happen to their children. Teens are allowed to consume drugs, weed, cocaine and alcohol during curfew. The curfew will not solve all of the teenager's problems. It takes away the freedom of teenagers and doesn't help. Curfew laws are essential to the safety of children. Curfew laws are helpful and should be respected. In order to help parents with their teenage children, curfew laws are a way for parents not to worry about their children at night during curfew. Curfew laws help parents. When the child breaks the curfew law, his parents can receive a heavy fine or even prison (Burgess). Curfew laws give facilities to teenagers.
