Topic > The Federal Intelligence Service - 1746

On 1 January 2010, the Federal Intelligence Service was created from the collaboration of the two previous services, the Strategic Information Service and the Analysis and Prevention Service. As regards international issues, the Strategic Intelligence Service will deal with them, while the Analysis and Prevention Service will be responsible for Switzerland's internal security. The decision taken by Parliament in April 2009 was one of the reasons why the Federal Intelligence Service existed. The activity of the Confederation's Information Service is first and foremost customized to the needs of its recipients such as the Federal Council, the departments and the cantons and is designed to provide them with the best possible services. It must be clear to the recipients of the Confederation's information activities service and to the public what the key capabilities and limitations of the service are. The Federal Intelligence Service (FIS) is an association that uses intelligence tools to collect, investigate, evaluate and publicize information, with the aim of accumulating a comprehensive intelligence picture applicable to decision makers at all levels. The FIS directly influences the security of Switzerland through its effective and preventive services. The peculiarity of the FIS is that the information and knowledge collected is not available to other federal agencies. When it comes to assisting decision makers, they fund attitudinal information to political and military leadership. Dealing with the security of Switzerland, the FIS attempts to identify and combat all acts at an early stage. The question arises: why is FIS needed. The federal and cantonal governments and administrations make use of various dissimilar sources of information...... middle of paper ...... monitoring the organization of services and affirming the aspect of the service provided and the performance of the information service in good condition time. Then there is the collection process in which certain or hidden information is collected by applying the most appropriate tool or approach to the task at hand. Finally, the analysis process comes into play. Here all the accessible information is investigated to respond to the needs and requirements of the recipients of the service. This also helps determine information disparity. The aim of the analysis is to provide intelligence results for decision makers and to provide practical support to the federal authorities and cantons.
