• The Renaissance was a renaissance that took place throughout Europe, it began in Italy thanks to three advantages: thriving cities, a wealthy merchant class, and the legacy of Greece and Rome. «The Italian Renaissance was the rebirth of classical art and knowledge. It was a rich period of development in which art became very popular in the evolving civilization. Due to the Renaissance revival there was a greater need for: scientists, artists and architects, many of them also used ancient Greek and Roman ideas to help with their own projects. There were also three types of renaissance; early, loud and late. In the early Renaissance Sandro Batticelli, Giotto di Bondone, Donatello and Masaccio were born as great artists and sculptors. During the High Renaissance some of the greatest artists became popular such as: Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Titian. In the late Renaissance the works of Pontormo, Parmigianino and Rosso Fiorentino became known. The painting The Feast of the Gods was created by Alfonso and has become a masterpiece of the Italian Renaissance. Da Vinci was a man of both worlds, he was known not only for his extraordinary works of art but also for his great scientific knowledge. Unlike normal artists, in his time he was a painter, architect, musician, inventor/engineer, sculptor and scientist. He was born in 1452 and in 1483 he moved to Milan where he completed his first work of art: the Madonna on the rocks. Leonardo da Vinci was also known to be a phenomenal inventor and engineer, he was asked by the government to construct all kinds of buildings and even create new weapons. Before his death in 1519 he began drawing hundreds of sketches of human bodies. He found the people he wanted to draw from the nearby morgue. Each city-state had its own ruler: Rome-the Pope, Florence-the Medici family, Venice-the Dodges and Milan-the Sforzas. Since all the different rulers had their own thoughts and rules, there were many conflicts and rivalries during this period of peace.
