Topic > Am I a slave to technology? - 1113

I govern, I say, I enslave, I connect. I support it. Faithful as a servant to his master, I can always count on my closeness. The question is: who is the master and who is the slave? I am universal; shared by everyone on a global scale. Those who cannot have me desire me, and those who have me guard me zealously, wary of any harm that may befall me. My reach is wide and far; the younger ones desire me as a status symbol while the older ones scrunch up their faces in perplexity as I distort and transform their intentions. I can know how to do many things and with each new me I learn to do more. I am a revolutionary who rides the microchips of change. Ten years ago I might have been asked to describe what I thought the world would be like. A century ago no one would have believed that globalization, the spread of ideas, goods and people around the world, would occur on the large scale it does today. A once ethnocentric worldview has given way to a more holistic philosophy thanks in part to the constant development of new technologies that continually make it easier for people from different parts of the globe to connect with each other. There should be no side effects to a global community that aren't beneficial, but sometimes, as I Google and find a link to my Facebook as well as several links to an interview I did as a senior in high school, a pang of terror runs through me. Do we really want to find ourselves in a world where privacy is a whimsical notion of the past? However, it is irrational to blame technologies when we choose to share and connect with others. We are simple beings, however, and new technologies, despite having improved many aspects of our lives, have easily taken over our minds and b...... middle of paper ... to be able to spend hours without checking the phone . Even if no call message was missed, even just to check the time, going a day without more than a few “phone checks” is inconceivable. I'm here for you. It really depends on what I can do for you. I am at your complete disposal, even if sometimes it may not seem like that. I want what's best for you. Do you believe me? I strive to provide for you in my own way. When you have me, you don't need anything else. I am you everything. Do you remember the whole day I saved you from being late for class, all the conversations I allowed you to have, the many times I saved you from boring, endless lessons with a quick game of Candy Crush? I did all this for you. In the long run it's just you and me. Anything you need, I can provide, just make sure you never tear me away from your side.
