Teachers should have the option to be armed The topic "Teachers should be armed" interests me so much because I met a teacher who faced a shooting in a school and he really believed it if the teachers had been armed the shooting would never have happened. There have been so many cases of school shootings, innocent people have been injured, and students and even staff members have not felt safe at school. I myself met a person who had to deal with the deadly tragedy of a shooting inside Columbine High School seeing his students' lives end because of 2 kids who thought taking them away from the dead would improve theirs. This changed his entire perspective on why a teacher should be armed. “If the teachers had been armed on April 20, 1999, this would never have happened,” he said. This teacher told me that if he had been armed that day he could have saved the students' lives because he felt helpless when the shooting happened and there was nothing he could do about it. Cases like these should be prepared by teachers with a weapon at hand. Having teachers armed will reduce the risk of school shootings. There have been many cases of school shootings over the past decade and we need to put a stop to it. Innocent lives are taken away, students don't feel safe or willing to learn, and school isn't what it used to be. Last year there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in which many innocent children and teachers were killed. A teacher who worked at Sandy Hook, Victoria Soto, was shot and killed for hiding her students in a closet and telling the gun they were in the gym just so the kids could be safe and risked life for them. In an article "She was a hero" by Erin Smith explains that Soto was a hero and saved her children and if she had been armed she would have had... half the paper... the dren will see since their teachers are armed and they will follow in their footsteps and think it's okay to carry a gun. However, children can be taught what is right and what is wrong and learn that firearms are not good for a child to hold. Children will also be taught that teachers are only armed for security purposes and will feel safer at school instead of being afraid to be there. School shootings continue to happen and we need to stop them. We need to have these teachers trained and ready to fight. Students deserve to rest their lives knowing something could have been done, that's why we need to arm these teachers. This is a cold world if someone walks into a school with a weapon, even teachers need to have their weapon ready to fire their children. A school is a fun place to learn but also a place to stay safe. This is why teachers should be armed.
