Prostitution has been present in our world for many centuries. Since ancient times, there have been people selling, buying and controlling the sex industry. Although this is one of the longest-running businesses in history, it is still one of the most misunderstood by the public. Anti-prostitution activists try to introduce moral issues and false facts to scare us from legalizing something that most people do on a daily basis. Fortunately, there are many facts that prove the opposite and the moral question concerns no one but the people involved. So where's the problem? By legalizing prostitution, we are giving workers the rights they are born with and a safer environment in which to work. One detail that was brought up when discussing anti-prostitution laws is that making it illegal is a violation of human rights. Prostitutes are heavily discriminated against not only by those who disagree with the act and deem it immoral, but also by the police and other law enforcement agencies. When an officer attempts an arrest, he belittles the prostitute by acting harsh and aggressive. All arrests involve entrapment, invasion of privacy, and/or the use of discriminatory tactics. For many prostitutes, fighting an arrest is unheard of. Not only do they fear their officers, but they are unaware of their right to fight for their rights. They rarely realize that they have the right to be considered and that most arrests are illegal and therefore unacceptable. According to a quote from PEN, “No person's human or civil rights should be violated on the basis of his trade, occupation, work, vocation or profession.” (The Prostitutes' Education Network)Furthermore, enforcement of anti-prostitution laws makes...... center of paper......
